The Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Hristijan Mickoski, said today that an increase in electricity prices is not being considered. According to him, the authorities are drafting a plan to establish a formula that would enable prices to be lowered or, at the very least, the low tariff to be extended, unlike most European countries, which are planning to raise energy prices.

Mickoski said that North Macedonia is successfully managing the challenges affecting energy prices, including the crisis in the Persian Gulf and the current water level of the Danube River.
According to the prime minister, the government’s policy is not aimed at “creating panic,” but at acting calmly and through small steps that produce results and help improve citizens’ quality of life.
“At this moment, as the irrigation season draws to a close, our reservoirs are about 70 percent full, while we have accumulated almost 500 gigawatt-hours of electricity. This amount is fully sufficient to ensure that we will not face difficulties in supplying electricity to citizens and industry,” Mickoski said.
He also announced that major capital projects are being implemented in the energy sector. As an example, he cited Alcazar’s investment in a wind farm in the municipalities of Shtip, Karbinci and Radovish, which will be carried out in three phases and is worth around half a billion dollars.
“North Macedonia is currently secure and stable, while we are also drafting a plan for the next 10 years. The problems inherited from the past are significant, but we are not giving up and are working to resolve them,” the prime minister said.
Speaking about fuel, Mickoski said that prices in North Macedonia had been around half a euro lower per liter than in neighboring countries and that, according to him, the same policy is continuing now. He also referred to the global energy crisis, stressing that the war in the Persian Gulf and the conflict with Iran have placed significant pressure on energy markets.
