Mexico in mourning as renowned musician is executed alongside his family and nanny

Mexico has been shaken by a multiple murder after a renowned musician, his pregnant wife, their 3-year-old daughter and the family’s nanny were found dead in an apartment near Mexico City.

The victims were identified as Jonathan Meléndez, 38, keyboardist for the indie rock band Camilo Séptimo; his 35-year-old wife, Ana Paula, who was four months pregnant; and Aleida Romero Victorio, 21, the nanny who worked for the family.

According to information from Mexican authorities, three of the victims, including the young girl, were shot in the head. The fourth victim had been shot in the back. Two of them were found with their hands tied, while the family dog was found dead with its legs bound.

A 6-year-old boy was also found unharmed in the home. Authorities suspect the crime took place on Tuesday between 5:30 p.m. and 7:40 p.m.

The day after the killings, police arrested two people suspected of being connected to the murders. Diego Sebastián “N” is considered the main suspect and possible perpetrator, while Gerardo “N” is being investigated over his alleged involvement.

Authorities believe one of the men may have used an acquaintance with one of the victims to gain access to the apartment.

Investigators are working to establish a motive and clarify all the circumstances surrounding the multiple murder. Following news of Meléndez’s death, Camilo Séptimo remembered him as someone who will always be remembered with love and gratitude.
