Magistrates’ salaries, Shehaj on Rama: He is desperate, must answer for Veliaj and Balluku, and will not escape justice

Agron Shehaj, chairman of the Mundësia Party, has described the public debate over magistrates’ salaries as contrived, attributing the effort to Prime Minister Edi Rama.

According to Shehaj, Albania’s Constitution protects the inviolability of magistrates’ salaries in order to guarantee the independence of the judiciary. He stressed that this principle is intended to prevent the prime minister from holding the justice system hostage.

The leader of Mundësia claims that Rama is bringing the issue to the attention of the public because he is terrified by the judiciary’s investigations into government officials. According to him, the prime minister is desperate and no longer knows what to do.

Shehaj recalled that Rama has attacked judges, described them as prosecutors from the communist era, declared that Erion Veliaj was arrested without a court decision, and said that the judiciary would determine who governs. He added that, after taking these positions, the prime minister has now focused on salaries, creating a manufactured debate.

According to Shehaj, the Constitutional Court has already expressed its position, and Edi Rama has no chance of emerging victorious from this confrontation.

He called on the prime minister to provide Albanian citizens with answers about how he has stolen from them and how, from 2013 to the present, he has provided them with corrupt governments.

In conclusion, Shehaj called on Rama to take responsibility for Erion Veliaj and Belinda Balluku and to resign—a demand that protesters have been voicing for more than 3 months.
