Lightning damages Wroclaw fountain near UNESCO monument, special shows temporarily suspended

The Wroclaw Fountain, one of the most visited tourist attractions in Poland, was struck by lightning, suffering major damage to its lighting system and causing the temporary suspension of special shows.

The incident was recorded on Saturday, June 20. Security camera footage released by the authorities on Thursday shows the moment the lightning strikes the fountain. Children were also in the area at the time, but fortunately no injuries were reported.

According to the site’s administrators, the electrical strike hit the fountain’s central water nozzles, causing severe damage to the electronic equipment.

“Many of the devices have burned out and need to be replaced. Since the system is complex, repairing and replacing the components will take several weeks,” officials said.

This fountain is located near the Centennial Hall (Hala Stulecia), a monument included on the UNESCO World Heritage List, and is known for its water, light and music shows that attract thousands of visitors every year.

The administrators explained that the regular daytime and evening shows will continue, but with a limited program, while the special shows will remain suspended until repairs are completed.

At the same time, visitors have been asked to respect the ban on entering the fountain basin. According to them, this rule is often violated, despite the signage and warnings in place.
