United States President Donald Trump has said he will demand that Iran pay compensation for people who, according to him, have been killed or seriously wounded by Tehran. According to Reuters, Trump’s statement came in response to Iran’s demand for compensation for damage caused by attacks by the United States and Israel. In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said that he was now also seeking compensation from Iran.

“It’s an interesting idea because I am now also seeking compensation from Iran, for all the people they have killed and seriously wounded with their roadside bombs and in many conflicts,” Trump wrote.
The American president’s statement came after Iran said over the weekend that it was close to an agreement with Oman to establish new maritime transport corridors through the Strait of Hormuz.
However, Tehran has reiterated that several conditions must be met for this strategic route to reopen, including compensation for the damage caused, the lifting of sanctions and an end to American military threats.
Trump also mentioned the attack on the American warship USS Cole, which was hit by a suicide attack in a Yemeni port in October 2000. The attack killed 17 American sailors and wounded more than 30 others.
According to the FBI, the attack on the USS Cole was attributed to Al-Qaeda. Trump also demanded that Iran pay compensation to the families of people who, according to him, were killed during anti-government protests in Iran.
The American president said that the Iranian government should compensate the families of thousands of people killed during the protests. Meanwhile, human rights groups have reported that Iranian authorities have continued their crackdown on opponents even during the conflict.
