The process was conducted by secret ballot, with delegates asked: “Should Abdixhiku be removed?” Lumir Abdixhiku himself reportedly did not take part in the vote.

The extraordinary Assembly was convened at the request of one-third of the delegates, who sought the removal of the LDK leader.

Voting began after Abdixhiku delivered his speech and Armend Zemaj leveled accusations against him. Zemaj, an MP and member of the Assembly, listed what he described as Abdixhiku’s failures during his leadership of the LDK.

An LDK delegate from Gjilan also spoke during the discussion, accusing the party’s “dissatisfied” members of trying to tear down their own house.

His speech was cut short after it was decided that the debate would not continue and that the Assembly would proceed immediately to a vote. For the secret-ballot procedure, the 327 delegates were called by name one after another.

Another party Assembly was held on January 31, 2026. At that meeting, following a secret ballot, delegates rejected Lumir Abdixhiku’s resignation. He secured a margin of only 28 votes in favor of continuing his term as LDK leader.

The delegates present at the time voted “YES” or “NO” on whether to accept or reject the leader’s resignation. The final result showed that 164 delegates opposed Abdixhiku’s resignation, while 136 voted in favor.

After that result was announced, Abdixhiku issued a message calling for unity. He stressed that he intended to bring all party members together, regardless of whether they had agreed with his positions during the process. He also called for unity and cooperation, with the aim of strengthening the LDK in the period ahead.

Lumir Abdixhiku was first elected leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo on March 14, 2021, following Isa Mustafa’s resignation.
