Lamallari Changes Age Criteria for Recruitment into the State Police

Minister of Interior Besfort Lamallari has signed an order changing the age limit for candidates seeking admission to the State Police. The change expands opportunities for young people, experienced professionals and employees coming from other security institutions.

The decision was taken following numerous requests that citizens conveyed to the minister through social media and direct contacts, expressing their interest in joining the State Police and contributing to ensuring the security of the country and its citizens.

Under the new rules, candidates up to the age of 35 who have completed upper secondary education and are seeking operational roles may apply to serve in the General Patrol through the Basic College.

The same limit, up to the age of 35, will also apply to candidates who wish to pursue a Bachelor’s program at the Security Academy and enter the Police structures in the first-level management role, with the rank of sub-commissioner.

The order also provides opportunities for professionals with higher education. Individuals who have completed the second cycle of higher education studies in relevant fields, including economics, finance and information technology, may be admitted up to the age of 40 in the first-level management role, after completing the specialized course for sub-commissioners.

Employees of other security institutions will not be subject to the age limit if they meet the established criteria and complete the relevant admission procedures.

Lamallari presented the decision as an effort to ensure equal opportunities for all those seeking to join the State Police. According to him, in addition to age, candidates’ education, qualifications and professional experience should also be taken into consideration.

The minister described the decision as fair, saying it creates equal opportunities based on each person’s commitment and experience, without penalizing candidates with different educational and professional backgrounds through rigid criteria that are the same for everyone.

He added that interest in security, the renewal of the police organization and its strengthening through the experience of new employees are at the heart of the aim to build a more professional, stronger police force that is closer to citizens.
