Kushner discusses implementation of Gaza ceasefire agreement with al-Sisi

Jared Kushner, Donald Trump’s envoy and son-in-law, met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in El Alamein, where they discussed the implementation of the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, an Egyptian presidency spokesperson said.

According to the spokesperson’s statement, the meeting stressed that all parties must fulfill the commitments made under the ceasefire agreement for Gaza.

Meanwhile, the Egyptian news agency Mena reported earlier that Egyptian Intelligence chief Hassan Rashad received a Hamas delegation in El Alamein to discuss ways of advancing the US peace plan for Gaza.

The Hamas delegation was led by Khalil al-Hayya and, according to reports, he “reiterated his commitment to the success of US President Donald Trump’s plan.”

A Hamas official said the talks focused on “efforts to persuade Israel to adhere to the agreement, which includes a 15-point roadmap, and to begin implementing it.” He added that the delegation would present the Egyptian side with Israel’s ceasefire violations.

At the end of July, Hamas approved the 15-point US plan, which aims to launch the “second phase of the Trump plan” for Gaza. The plan provides for the disarmament of Hamas and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Palestinian enclave.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected the plan, demanding the “genuine disarmament of Hamas.”

Next week, Jared Kushner is expected to travel to Israel as part of efforts to reduce disagreements.

A Hamas source said the group has “contacts and talks” with mediators from Egypt, Qatar and Turkey, with the aim of “persuading Israel to adhere to the agreement.”
