Speaking to the media after a women’s fair held in Pristina today, Kusari-Lila said the invitation could be sent in the coming days, or even within the next few hours. According to her, the aim is to reach a political agreement on constituting the Assembly, forming the Government and electing the president.
Kusari-Lila, whose party ran in a pre-election coalition with the Vetëvendosje Movement, stressed that electing the president is a shared responsibility of all MPs. She warned that the failure of this process would send the country to new elections within a short period of time.
She said that before the constitutive session, Albin Kurti, in his capacity as acting prime minister and leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement, will invite the LDK and the other parties. According to her, forming the institutions, particularly electing the president, is a shared responsibility of all elected members of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo.
Kusari-Lila added that even if an agreement is reached on electing the Assembly’s leadership, constituting the Assembly and forming the Government, failure to elect the president would send Kosovo back to elections no less than two months later. For this reason, she said a new electoral process should be avoided because, in her view, no party appears to have either the will or any logical reason to pursue it.
She called on all parties to work seriously toward fulfilling the duties entrusted to them as representatives of the citizens so that the institutions can be formed within a short period of time.
According to the Alternativa leader, after the constitutive session and, if possible, after the election of the Government, an agreement should first be reached and a vote should then be held for the country’s president.
Kusari-Lila said it is now clear what can be proposed to the other parties. She mentioned the possibility of discussions on a governing coalition, while the issue of the president should be resolved through a joint agreement among the political parties.
According to her, this understanding could involve only an agreement to remain in the chamber and vote according to the MPs’ own preferences, or it could be a broader agreement. She warned that conditions inconsistent with the will of the citizens could complicate the process, stressing that the election result is known and that any political agreement should reflect it.
Kusari-Lila also announced that another meeting with the LDK is expected to take place soon. According to her, this meeting could lead to concrete arrangements based on the understandings reached among the political parties.
