Kurti urges Albanians in Presheva, Bujanoc and Medvegja to vote for the Albanian National Council

Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has urged Albanians in Presheva, Bujanoc and Medvegja to take part in the November 8 elections for the Albanian National Council.

In his message, Kurti said that 37,759 Albanians on the Special Electoral Roll are eligible to vote. Four electoral lists, with a total of 107 candidates, are competing for the Council’s 29 seats.

He noted that, after more than a decade with 15 members, the Albanian National Council is returning to a 29-member composition as a result of the 2022 population census. According to Kurti, this matters for the representation of Albanians and the protection of their collective rights.

Kurti recalled that the Council has public authority in education, culture, information and the official use of the Albanian language and script. He cited Albanian-language schools, textbooks, cultural institutions and media as areas linked to preserving national identity.

Referring to obstacles posed by Serbian state institutions, the deactivation of addresses, discrimination and underrepresentation in institutions, the prime minister said Albanians continue to seek their rights and a future in their homeland.

He said the Government of the Republic of Kosovo has stood by Albanians in Presheva, Bujanoc and Medvegja and will continue to do so through textbooks, scholarships for pupils and students, and support for culture and representative institutions.

Finally, Kurti urged citizens to freely exercise their democratic right to vote tomorrow, November 8, according to their convictions, for equal rights and a future in their homeland.
