Kurti Invites Parties to Meeting to Discuss Presidential Candidates

Kosovo’s acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, said on Friday that political parties should begin discussing specific individuals who could run for the post of the country’s next president. According to him, a prior agreement would make it possible to avoid new elections.

“We must also begin discussing names because we are losing a great deal of time, but we stand to lose the most by going to elections,” Kurti said.

He announced that last night he sent a message to the leaders of the PDK, LDK and the Alliance, proposing a meeting on the issue of the president.

“We want to reach an agreement on this in advance so that we can avoid elections,” he said.

According to Kurti, the next president should be a “consensus” and inclusive figure, with the broadest possible support both in the Assembly and among citizens.

He stressed that Kosovo has “dozens” of suitable figures from academic, political and social circles. According to him, this group also includes individuals who contributed to the war and the state-building process.
