Finance Minister Hekuran Murati said the investment would enable the purchase of modern medical equipment and improve conditions for patients at the University Clinical Center of Kosovo (UCCK) in Pristina, as well as at hospitals in the regions of Prizren, Peja, Gjakova and Gjilan.

Murati: The €41 million investment will bring modern technology and improve conditions for patients

“Today, the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, through the Ministry of Finance, signed the loan agreement with the European Investment Bank and the Council of Europe Development Bank for the medical equipment and infrastructure improvement project. The total value of this project is €41 million, and the co-financing is divided equally between the two banks, namely the EIB and CEB. The investment will provide modern medical equipment and improve patient infrastructure at the University Clinical Center of Kosovo in Pristina, as well as at the regional hospitals in Prizren, Peja, Gjakova and Gjilan,” Murati said.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Arben Vitia stressed that revitalizing infrastructure and equipping facilities with modern medical technology was one of the main pillars of the 2025–2030 sectoral health strategy.

Vitia: Modernizing healthcare is a priority on the government agenda

“The 2025–2030 sectoral health strategy reflects the priorities of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo for the healthcare sector. Among the strategic objectives of this strategy, we have identified the reorganization of healthcare institutions and the modernization of medical infrastructure and technology as one of today’s priorities. The strategy places particular importance on improving the physical infrastructure of secondary and tertiary healthcare institutions by providing them with modern medical equipment over the long term,” Vitia explained.

Robert de Groot, vice president of the European Investment Bank, pointed out that healthcare was among the clearest areas in which public money was directly translated into services for citizens.

De Groot: Healthcare is clear evidence of the value of public investment

“Healthcare is one of the clearest ways in which public investment delivers services to people. Every day, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, citizens must be able to rely on essential medical care for themselves and their families. By signing this operation today, we are helping to ensure that healthcare professionals and patients across Kosovo have access to modern equipment and facilities. This means advanced medical equipment and improved supporting infrastructure, resulting in better diagnosis, more effective treatment and improved care for patients,” de Groot stressed.

Meanwhile, Johannes Böhmer, deputy governor for Social Development Strategy at the Council of Europe Development Bank, said that health was the foundation of everything else in life.

Böhmer: The healthcare system is a basic service citizens expect

“We can say that without health, everything else is nothing. And I think that people in all our countries expect a strong healthcare system as a basic service that governments must provide in order to keep their populations functioning. Without health, many other things become secondary, and for that reason, this is even more important,” he concluded.
