Kosovo Police clarifies measures planned for September 16

Kosovo Police has rejected reports that the country is being “fortified” ahead of the decision expected to be issued in The Hague. In an official statement, it clarified that police plans are drawn up as part of standard procedures, particularly when developments, activities or large public gatherings are anticipated.

According to the police institution, the security measures are intended to provide citizens of the Republic of Kosovo with accurate information and prevent misinformation that may spread through various news portals.

The police said that such plans are also implemented for various gatherings, including the peaceful solidarity march on September 12, 2026. Their purpose is to ensure the safe management of participants, maintain public order and safety, organize road traffic and guarantee the normal conduct of activities.

When assessing the situation, the authorities also take into account the possibility that certain individuals or groups, including from outside Kosovo, may try to exploit large gatherings to cause provocations, incidents or destabilizing actions.

The institution stressed that these are standard and preventive measures, determined according to the expected number of participants and the overall assessment of the circumstances.

Kosovo Police urged citizens and the media to refer only to official announcements and not to share unconfirmed claims that could affect perceptions of security or cause unnecessary concern among the public.

The reaction came after media reports that Kosovo Police had prepared a broad operational plan for September 16, the date on which the verdict against Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi is expected to be announced in The Hague.
