Korreshi: SPAK should investigate state structures merged with crime; the opposition needs radical action such as occupying Parliament or going on hunger strike

In an interview with “News24,” MP Saimir Korreshi spoke about proposed amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code. He said SPAK should focus on state structures that have become intertwined with crime.

According to him, these amendments are being made because of a major problem and the noose tightening around the government every day. He added that, politically, everything is being done to tighten that noose further. In his assessment, the offense of inequality in public tenders carries a sentence of up to three years, while abuse of office carries a sentence of one to five years. This means tenders are awarded and public office is abused for electoral interests, because no one will be imprisoned. He stressed that this situation has turned the state upside down.

Asked whether SPAK’s investigations are at risk, Korreshi replied that he considers this a problem and that such a scenario is genuinely possible.

He said it was positive that investigations would continue, but access to evidence remains an obstacle. According to him, witnesses will be intimidated, and then calls will be made to dissolve SPAK and the Special Court Against Corruption and Organized Crime (GJKKO). The MP added that this would be like taking power through the law.

He also stressed that the Prosecution must continue its investigations, since there are even more serious criminal offenses.

He emphasized that the state is facing an emergency, which requires it to turn its attention to state structures involved in crime.

Speaking about the situation within the Democratic Party, he said the opposition must make tougher decisions. He recalled that MPs had previously called for an occupation of Parliament, and said the stance should be toughened, as is now being seen. Among the most drastic actions he mentioned occupying Parliament or going on hunger strike over decisions that are imposed and unlawfully blocked. He added that this is an issue under discussion and that more voices are now calling for such action.
