Konjufca in New York: The ruling against former KLA leaders must be corrected

Glauk Konjufca, first deputy prime minister and minister of foreign affairs and diaspora, attended the second annual gala evening of the Albanian American Relations Council (AARC) in New York. Representatives of the Albanian-American community, friends of the Albanian community and numerous public figures were present at the event.

In his speech, Konjufca praised Albanian activists, associations and organizations in the United States for their work in raising public and U.S. institutional awareness of the Kosovo issue. He said that the contribution of the Albanian diaspora in the United States was fundamental to Kosovo’s freedom and independence.

Konjufca also addressed the first-instance judgment by the Specialist Chambers against the former KLA leaders. According to him, it represents an injustice that is not limited to the personal fate of those convicted, but also affects the cause of liberation and freedom.

He called for this injustice to be corrected and urged the protection of the legitimacy of the KLA’s liberation war, as well as the right of the people of Kosovo to be freed from oppression.

Speaking about Kosovo’s institutional and democratic situation, Konjufca called for reflection and political responsibility. He stressed that state and national interests must take precedence over narrow party interests and that, in times of challenge, national cohesion and the stable functioning of institutions are essential.

In closing, Konjufca thanked the AARC for its efforts to strengthen and advance Albanian-American relations, as well as for helping preserve and strengthen the ties between the Albanian community in the United States and Kosovo and Albania.
