Iva Mihailova now in Bulgaria: I was oppressed in North Macedonia because of my Bulgarian origin

Iva Mihailova, a resident of Kočani who is accused in court proceedings over a fatal road accident, is now on Bulgarian territory.

This morning Bulgarian television “BTV” reported that Mihailova crossed the North Macedonia-Bulgaria border, accompanied by Bulgarian lawyer Nikolay Dimitrov. According to her statement to the media, the reason for her return was the worsening of her health.

“We crossed the border together with my lawyer. Because my health had worsened, he took me and we returned to Bulgaria without any difficulty. At the border I showed my North Macedonia identity card. Here I feel safe. In North Macedonia I was oppressed because of my Bulgarian origin, and this was one of the reasons why they filed charges against me,” Mihailova told “BTV”.

Asked whether she plans to return to North Macedonia for the court hearing scheduled for November 9, she said:

“The process will continue without me or with me. We will see how it develops.”

Meanwhile, lawyer Nikolay Dimitrov, asked by BTV, refused to reveal which border crossing they used, arguing that he did not want to put the people he believes he helped in a difficult position.

“The situation is unacceptable and we have taken fate into our own hands,” concluded lawyer Dimitrov. /Telegrafi/
