Italy, education minister sent envelope containing bullet and threats, Meloni: Cowardly acts that have no place in a democracy

An envelope containing a bullet and a letter with threatening language has arrived at the Italian Ministry of Education, addressed to Minister Giuseppe Valditara.

The package was delivered to the ministry in recent days, while the incident was reported to the Carabinieri on September 16. Italian authorities have launched an investigation to identify those responsible and clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident.

After the case became public, Valditara received messages of support from senior government and political figures in Italy.

Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed her and the government’s solidarity with the minister, stressing that the bullet and the threatening letter constituted acts of intimidation that “have no place in a democracy.”

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani also responded, declaring that Valditara “will not be intimidated.” He added that threats and violence would not stop the government’s work.

Culture Minister Alessandro Giuli also expressed his support for the minister, describing the incident as an unacceptable act of intimidation.

Chamber of Deputies President Lorenzo Fontana and Senate President Ignazio La Russa also stood by Valditara.

La Russa said he hoped the relevant authorities would identify those responsible for the threat as soon as possible.
