Hunter Biden does not rule out 2028 presidential bid: I could run for the White House

Hunter Biden’s name has returned to discussions about the 2028 U.S. presidential election after the son of former President Joe Biden left open the possibility of running for the White House.

During an interview on WABC’s “Cats Roundtable” radio show, he was asked whether he would consider running for president. Hunter Biden replied, “if I have your support, I may have to,” referring to the host and businessman John Catsimatidis.

So far, the statement has not been accompanied by any official step toward creating a campaign. Hunter Biden has not announced his candidacy, nor has he given any concrete indication that he has begun preparing to seek the Democratic Party’s nomination.

However, his position is noticeably more open than the one he expressed just a few weeks ago. In an interview on HBO’s “Real Time” with Bill Maher, he had denied the possibility of running, even treating the idea humorously.

One issue he would place at the center of a potential candidacy is the fight against addiction in the United States. “What concerns me most are the 50 million Americans who are still suffering from their addictions,” Hunter Biden said.

He has also spoken publicly in the past about his own struggle with addiction, using his personal experience in the messages he conveys during public appearances.

Respect for the Constitution and the rule of law are another element Hunter Biden has highlighted in his statements. “I want the next president to commit to one thing: respecting the rule of law,” he said.

A potential presidential run would expose Hunter Biden to intense scrutiny of his past. His business activities, legal proceedings and problems with addiction would be expected to be among the main subjects of such a campaign.

In 2024, Hunter Biden was found guilty of charges related to possession of a firearm, while he also pleaded guilty in a tax-fraud case. Joe Biden later granted him a sweeping federal pardon covering criminal offenses committed during the period from 2014 to 2024.

Although he did not rule himself out, Hunter Biden acknowledged that Democrats also have other potential candidates for the 2028 election.

Among the names he endorsed was California Governor Gavin Newsom, whom Hunter Biden said he personally respects.

For now, Hunter Biden’s words represent a political signal rather than an official announcement of his candidacy. Nevertheless, his statement has opened the possibility that the Biden name could return to the race for the White House in 2028.
