Holidaymaker Traffic at the Albania-Kosovo Border Tops 1 Million Crossings in July

Around 1.36 million journeys were recorded at border crossings between Albania and Kosovo during July, reflecting a high volume of traffic on both sides of the border.

Within a short two-day period, at the four main border crossings—Morinë–Vërmicë, Qafë Prush–Gjakovë, Qafë Morinë–Gjakovë and Shishtavec–Krushevë—authorities counted around 22,000 and nearly 60,000 citizens crossing into Albanian or Kosovar territory.

The vast majority of traffic was concentrated at the Morinë–Vërmicë crossing, which serves as the main artery connecting the two countries and is considered one of the busiest at the height of the summer season.

This increased traffic is mainly linked to Kosovar holidaymakers heading to Albanian beaches, as well as the influx of emigrants from the diaspora returning to their homeland for the holidays.

To manage this surge in travelers, the authorities are implementing the free movement agreement between Albania and Kosovo, which has significantly simplified border-crossing procedures during the tourist season.
