Heightened security measures in The Hague ahead of verdict for former KLA leaders

The hearing to announce the first-instance verdict against four former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army will begin tomorrow at 10:00.

Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi are expected to appear before the trial panel at the Specialist Chambers in The Hague.

Just hours before this historic decision, Dutch authorities have increased the police presence outside the court building.

While the KosovaPress team was in The Hague, police officers asked Albanian citizens near the building to leave.

According to one of the officers, the commander’s order was that no one should remain in front of the building for more than two minutes, even though it is located on public property.

“If you stay here for two minutes, that is fine, but otherwise you have to move over there. Staying here is not allowed. That is all; that is the reason. You are not allowed to remain in front of the Tribunal; you have to go in that direction. That is what I am telling you. For information, you can contact the police spokesperson. If you want, you can go to Manifeld, as a demonstration will be held there later,” the Dutch police officer said, KosovaPress reports.
