A serious incident was recorded in the early hours of Monday in Ksamil, where 20-year-old Portuguese Luís Miguel Varela Mendes lost his life. The young man was stabbed several times, while the suspected perpetrator is Sokrat Vata.

According to Portuguese media, the testimonies of the victim’s friends present another version of the cause of the conflict. They stated that the clash began when Mendes tried to intervene to stop a woman who was being harassed in a public space.
Friends describe the Portuguese tourist as the first person who reacted to the situation and tried to stop it.
Sokrat Vata, the main suspect in the murder, is suspected to have been among the people who were bothering the woman. The clash between the Albanians and the group of Luís Mendes continued afterwards, until the moment when the parties arrived at the entrance queue to a resort in the city. According to local police, that is exactly where the crime may have occurred.
