Has national security been compromised? SPAK issues a security measure against SHISH director Vlora Hyseni, an unprecedented case in Albania’s history

The Special Prosecutor’s Office against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) issued a “house arrest” security measure on Tuesday against the head of the State Intelligence Service (SHISH), Vlora Hyseni, and suspended her from office.

Journalist Klodiana Lala reported that the measure has not yet been enforced because Hyseni is not in Albania. According to reports, the measure was issued as part of the investigation into the AKSHI case.

At a time when SPAK has issued this security measure against Albania’s top state security official, the question naturally arises: has national security been compromised?!

“This is the first case in which a senior female official has been subjected to this security measure. While the head of SHISH is alleged to hold the secrets of Albanians in her hands, she has ended up under an arrest measure. It has not been confirmed whether this security measure has been communicated to her or not. She is the first senior official in this position to face such an accusation amid suspicions by SPAK,” journalist Klodiana Lala said.

We recall that another precedent was set in the case of Bashkim Gazidede, who left Albania in ’97, but over other matters.
