Hamza: The Constitution cannot be subjected to political will

The chairman of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Bedri Hamza, held a meeting today with Germany’s ambassador to Kosovo, Rainer Rudolph. The discussion covered political developments, the institutional crisis and the challenges facing Kosovo.

According to a statement by the PDK, the parties discussed the importance of constituting the Assembly as soon as possible, implementing the constitutional order and upholding the rule of law. The meeting also addressed economic development and Kosovo’s progress toward integration processes.

Hamza said that the functioning of institutions and respect for the Constitution cannot depend on the political will of a party or individual. According to him, these are institutional obligations and the foundation of democracy.

The PDK leader expressed to the German ambassador his concern over the precedent created by the refusal of the party that received the most votes in the election to implement the decisions of the Constitutional Court.

“Chairman Hamza reaffirmed the PDK’s determination to use all democratic and institutional means to defend the Constitution, the institutions of the Republic and the interests of citizens,” the PDK statement said.

Hamza stressed that the Democratic Party of Kosovo will continue its efforts toward a democratic, functional state with economic development, integrated into Euro-Atlantic structures and maintaining close relations with strategic allies.
