Gola: Releasing the four former KLA leaders would be Kosovo’s success, not that of a party

Ardian Gola, deputy speaker of the Assembly from the ranks of the LVV, has commented on the judicial proceedings taking place in The Hague against the former KLA leaders.

He rejected interpretations that view the Special Court’s decision through the lens of political clashes in Kosovo, stressing that the issue should not be treated as a contest between the PDK and LVV.

According to Gola, attention should focus on Kosovo’s international standing and the judicial treatment of a fundamental part of its recent history. He also expressed his wish for all the defendants to be released.

Gola said that any political or intellectual stance linking the fate of the four in The Hague to political developments in Kosovo is irritating. According to him, their return is being wrongly interpreted as strengthening one political camp against another, as if the process were part of the country’s partisan rivalry.

He stressed that the court is not treating the defendants as representatives of the PDK or LVV. For him, the main issue is not related to the country’s internal political balance, but to the international standing of the state of Kosovo and the way a fundamental part of its recent history is being assessed.

Gola underlined that this should be the main concern of public opinion.

He said he sincerely hoped that everyone would be released, since such an outcome would not bring victory to a party or political camp, but to Kosovo.

According to him, any attempt to present the possible release of the defendants as a matter of the country’s political balance is wrong and constitutes an ugly form of political manipulation and manipulation of public opinion.
