Gjorgjievski Reassures Citizens: Skopje’s Water Is Safe to Drink and Monitored 24 Hours a Day

Orce Gjorgjievski said on social media today that Skopje’s water meets microbiological and chemical criteria, calling on citizens not to be concerned by information that, according to him, has caused unnecessary fear and panic in recent times.

He clarified that the landfill mentioned publicly is not located within the territory of the City of Skopje. According to Gjorgjievski, it is situated around 30 kilometres from the “Rashçe” spring and has existed for 30 years, but every landfill that causes an environmental problem must be cleaned up.

Gjorgjievski said that the Public Enterprise “Water Supply and Sewerage” is obliged to take action within its jurisdiction, while the City of Skopje will support the cleanup process.

Addressing residents of the capital directly, he stressed that the water they consume is safe to drink. Daily analyses, he said, confirm that the water is satisfactory from both microbiological and chemical perspectives.

Additional samples are collected every day at 36 to 40 different points throughout the water supply system. They are then thoroughly analysed at the laboratories of the Public Enterprise “Water Supply and Sewerage” – Skopje.

According to him, the “Rashçe” spring is monitored continuously, 24 hours a day, while its protection is ensured through surveillance cameras and the physical presence of security personnel.

Gjorgjievski urged citizens to remain calm, reiterating that Skopje is supplied with safe drinking water. He said there can be no politics, manipulation or compromises when it comes to citizens’ health, and that he would never remain silent if a risk to the health of Skopje residents emerged. At the same time, he stressed that he would not allow falsehoods, speculation and the spread of panic to create distrust when the facts, analyses and results clearly prove otherwise.
