Gjorgievski: Work on Bus Rapid Transit expected to begin at the end of next spring

The mayor of the City of Skopje, Orce Gjorgievski, said this evening on the program “Studio e Natës” that the project to implement Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) is nearing the implementation stage.

According to him, approval from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is in its final phase. The required documents have already been submitted, and the authorities are awaiting the bank’s response, with the aim of completing the procedure by the end of this week.

Immediately after this process is completed, a tender will be opened for the design and construction of the BRT system.

Gjorgievski stressed that cooperation with the EBRD is proceeding in full coordination, while the tendering process will be conducted in accordance with European rules. He expressed the expectation that the procedure would be announced in the coming days.

The project also provides for the preservation of the central greenery along the boulevards. In this way, the improvement of public transport is intended to be achieved without damaging the existing green spaces.

The mayor and the teams working on the project estimate that construction could begin at the end of next spring. The laying of the foundation stone and the official start of construction are expected during that period.

With the completion of the relevant procedures, BRT will enter a concrete implementation phase. The next step will be the announcement of the tender and the selection of the company that will carry out the project./Telegrafi/
