Gjakova Basic Prosecution Office resolved 2,328 cases in 2025 with just 10 prosecutors

With a staff of just 10 prosecutors, the Basic Prosecution Office in Gjakova managed to conclude a total of 2,328 cases during 2025.

Chief Prosecutor Enis Gashi presented these figures on Monday while reporting to the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council (KPC), where he also outlined the results achieved by each department.

According to him, the Serious Crimes Department began the year with 112 carried-over cases. During 2025, the department received 131 cases involving 225 people, while it concluded 155 cases involving 244 people.

The Juvenile Department had 327 carried-over cases involving 589 people, of which 228 cases were resolved. Meanwhile, the General Department had 618 cases. Across the entire prosecution office, the number of concluded cases reached 2,328, involving a total of 3,120 people.

Gashi said that the shortage of prosecutors had required him to take part in the on-call duties of both the Juvenile and Serious Crimes departments. He continues to serve on call in the Serious Crimes Department.

The chief prosecutor explained that he had consistently performed on-call duties, both while serving as acting chief prosecutor and now. Due to the staff shortage, he had also served in the Juvenile Department and processed the cases assigned to him through completion.

The chair of the KPC, Arian Gashi, emphasized that the Basic Prosecution Office in Gjakova has the smallest number of prosecutors in the entire prosecutorial system.

He said that this situation would be taken into account during the recruitment process for new prosecutors, with the aim of addressing the low number of prosecutors in Gjakova.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Council members approved Enis Gashi’s report.
