Gentjan Berberi Suspended from Duty, Disciplinary Investigation Launched After Incident in State Police

Former Shkodra Police director Gentjan Berberi has been suspended from duty and a disciplinary investigation has been launched against him.

A few days earlier, Berberi was removed from the post of Shkodra Police director due to poor performance, following the identification and destruction of several cannabis plots in the territory of the county. After his dismissal, he had been assigned to the General Directorate of the State Police, in the Analysis sector.

According to sources, this Thursday Berberi appeared at the office of the director of Human Resources at the General Directorate of Police, where he is suspected of having used insulting language and threatened the official because of his demotion.

Following this episode, the General Director of the State Police, Skënder Hita, ordered Berberi’s immediate suspension from duty, while the Directorate of Professional Standards has launched disciplinary investigation procedures against him over the alleged conduct.

At the same time, the director of Human Resources filed a criminal complaint with the Police Oversight Agency (AMP), accusing the former director of insults and threats made against her while she was carrying out her duties.

The case is being verified by the AMP, while the circumstances of the incident are expected to be fully clarified.
