Gaza, one year after the ceasefire: attacks continue while reconstruction has not begun

One year after Donald Trump declared the end of the war in Gaza, most of the commitments included in the ceasefire agreement have still not been implemented.

The ceasefire of October 10, 2025, enabled the release of the last 20 living hostages captured during Hamas’s attack on Israel. Meanwhile, no rocket attacks from Gaza carried out by the group have been recorded for a year.

However, the agreement has not stopped Israeli attacks, which, according to AFP, occur almost every day. Gaza’s Health Ministry says that around 1,450 Palestinians have been killed since the ceasefire. Although the institution is run by Hamas, the United Nations considers the figures it publishes credible. During this period, the territory under Israeli control has also expanded.

Under the agreement, Israeli troops were allowed to remain in 53 percent of Gaza. Official data cited by AFP show that after one year, their control extends across around 70 percent of the territory. The transfer of administration to a committee of technocrats has also not been completed. Hamas announced in July that it would hand over governance, but it continues to control security.

Hamas had also promised to hand over its weapons, but disarmament has not begun. Israel is demanding that the process be verified and, until then, refuses to begin withdrawing its troops. Reconstruction is also on hold because of a lack of funding. Trump promised $10 billion for the “Board of Peace,” while Gulf countries announced that they would provide additional funds.

AFP reports that there is no evidence that the promised money has arrived for the reconstruction of Gaza. In September, the board presented a $2.45 billion recovery plan, which was expected to be implemented over six months.
