Gashi: Statehood is strengthened every day through functioning institutions and equality

On the occasion of September 8, Independence Day, Assembly Speaker Afrim Gashi said that 35 years of statehood had shown that building a state is not completed through a political act, referendum or declaration of independence.

“A state is built every day, through functioning institutions, equal rights for every citizen, responsibility, work, education and economic development. Above all, it relies on people who see their personal future as linked to the state’s shared future,” Gashi said.

He emphasized that the country’s diverse ethnic, linguistic, religious and cultural identities should be regarded as a shared asset and strength, rather than as a reason for division.

According to the Assembly speaker, institutions must serve citizens, the law must be applied equally to everyone, and corruption must not be tolerated.

Gashi also said that the European orientation should continue to be a goal that unites everyone, while congratulating citizens on the 35th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of North Macedonia.
