Gara: Families of the missing await the truth and justice

Kushtrim Gara, head of the Governmental Commission for Missing Persons, has expressed his support for the actions of the Kosovo Police and the Directorate for the Investigation of War Crimes, including the operation recently conducted in Zubin Potok.

He assessed that the work of institutions in investigating and documenting war crimes is important for ensuring justice for victims and their families.

“Every action of the Kosovo Police and the Directorate for the Investigation of War Crimes, including the latest operation in Zubin Potok, which aims to shed light on crimes and establish justice for war victims and their families, we welcome and support,” Gara stated.

According to him, such initiatives also help fulfill the right of families to know what happened and to learn the truth, in addition to their demand for justice.

Gara emphasized that clarifying the fate of persons who disappeared by force and punishing those responsible constitute obligations that require continuous engagement from institutions.

“Determining the fate of persons who disappeared by force and bringing to justice those who bear responsibility require uninterrupted institutional work,” he declared.

The chairman of the Governmental Commission recalled that the families of missing persons have waited for a long period and that they deserve to receive complete answers about the fate of their loved ones.

“Families have waited long and it is their due to know the full truth, as well as to see justice served. As the family members themselves have explained, justice does not remove the pain, but it brings them comfort and shows that their suffering has not been forgotten,” Gara said.

In today’s operation by the Special Prosecution, carried out in cooperation with the Police, nine people were arrested on suspicion of committing war crimes. The operation is also linked to the so-called “Intellectuals Group.”
