Former Police Officer Ulian Shpataraku, Arrested with Ergys Agasi, Transferred to Peqin Prison

Former State Police official Ulian Shpataraku has been transferred to the Peqin pretrial detention facility following his arrest alongside Ergys Agasi.

Shpataraku was arrested on August 26 in the Plepa area of Durrës while he was in the same vehicle as Ergys Agasi.

According to the Special Prosecution Office Against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK), the former police officer was arrested in flagrante delicto on suspicion of the criminal offense of “aiding the perpetrator of a crime.”

On August 29, the Special Court imposed the security measure of “remand in custody” on Shpataraku, while investigations into the case are ongoing.

Arrest

As a reminder, on August 26 in the Plepa area of Durrës, Shpataraku was caught driving the vehicle in which Ergys Agasi was traveling. Agasi had been declared wanted by the authorities and had been on the run for around eight months.

Immediately after the arrest, searches were also carried out at Shpataraku’s home in the capital, where, according to reports, an arsenal of weapons was seized from him. Specifically, three pistols, two shotgun-type weapons, and two rifles, which he legally possessed.

Shpataraku’s firearms license was also revoked after he was expelled from the State Police several weeks earlier.

According to journalist Xhensila Kodra, there are indications that Shpataraku may have had a criminal record abroad in the past, which he did not declare, but which requires a thorough investigation by the authorities.
