Former MP raises alarm for LDK: The July 30 Assembly risks fragmenting and weakening the party

Former Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) MP Adem Salihaj has expressed deep concern over the internal tensions gripping the party, warning that it risks emerging fragmented and weakened from the Extraordinary Assembly called for July 30. In a statement for the newspaper “Bota sot,” he pointed to a sharp conflict of interests within it, stressing that the outcome of this meeting remains unclear, including the fate of current leader Lumir Abdixhiku.

According to Salihaj, it has nothing to do with any reform process, as in his view, reform cannot be seen simply as replacing people. He called on both camps within the LDK to exercise restraint and not sacrifice the party for personal gains or external influences.

“I am deeply troubled by the clashes and tensions in the LDK. There is a concrete threat that this political force will emerge from this assembly very divided and weakened. It is still not known where the meeting will lead and what will happen with Lumir Abdixhiku. But one thing is certain: the LDK will not be strengthened after this process. It is evident that a fierce struggle of interests is taking place within it. This has nothing to do with reforms, because reform is not simply swapping people,” he is quoted as saying.

“I hope both sides listen to the voice of reason and do not destroy the LDK for their own personal interests or those of someone else, outside the party,” the former MP added.

The Extraordinary Assembly was called after the party chairman confirmed that the statutory condition had been met with the support of signatures from at least one-third of the delegates. The LDK announced that Thursday’s meeting, on July 30, will be held in accordance with internal regulations and is expected to address recent developments, as well as issues related to the party’s direction and organization.
