Fires in Albania/ Of 26 outbreaks, 6 remain active

The wildfire situation across Albania has improved and currently poses no threat to populated areas. According to data up to 8:00 p.m., 26 fire outbreaks have been identified: 6 remain active, 6 are being monitored, while 14 have been extinguished.

The Ministry of Defense announced that the updated information refers to August 24, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. Operational structures continue their field interventions to contain and extinguish the remaining fires.

A total of 311 operational personnel and 16 firefighting vehicles were deployed during the day’s operations. In support of them, the Armed Forces provided 70 personnel, 1 firefighting vehicle, 1 heavy excavator and 3 helicopters.

In Pukë, the situation along the Tërbun–Gojan–Gjegjan route has improved significantly. The fires in Gjegjan, Gojan i Vogël and Gojan i Madh have been completely extinguished, while the fire in Prozhëm continues at very low intensity and is close to being extinguished. Personnel from the Fire Protection and Rescue Service, the forestry service, local structures and volunteers, along with 40 Armed Forces personnel, are taking part in the operation, using ground and aerial interventions.

Meanwhile, work is continuing in Gojdan, Fushë-Arrëz, to contain and extinguish a fire in a forested area. Local structures, the Fire Protection and Rescue Service, the Police, volunteers and 1 Armed Forces helicopter have been deployed at the scene. According to the announcement, homes are not at risk.

There are still active fires in Dajt as well, located in difficult terrain but posing no danger to populated areas. A total of 30 Armed Forces personnel and 30 firefighters were deployed to deal with the situation, supported by 1 Armed Forces helicopter.

Active fires have also been reported in Ballenjë and at Qafa e Helmës in Dibër, as well as on Mount Luzat in Tepelenë. In Lezhë, Elbasan and Vlorë, several other fires have been extinguished.

The National Civil Protection Agency continues its uninterrupted monitoring of the situation throughout the country, in close cooperation with the prefectures, municipalities and structures of the Civil Protection system.

Operational forces and capabilities remain in the field and on standby to intervene in any area where necessary, with the protection of lives, homes and citizens’ property as the top priority.
