A massive fire engulfed a hotel in Kolkata, India, overnight, killing at least nine people and injuring several others.

The incident occurred at around 1:45 a.m. at a hotel in the city center, near the headquarters of the West Bengal Fire Service, the Press Trust of India reported.
Emergency crews evacuated around 80 people from the building and managed to bring the flames under control.
Local police said the death toll could rise, as several people affected by the fire are still being assessed.
Meanwhile, authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire, while efforts are underway to identify the victims and fully assess the damage.
