Filipçe urges Mickoski not to jeopardize the country’s future: Isolation could bring decades of poverty and emigration

Venko Filipçe, speaking at a press conference held in parliament together with the parliamentary group of the SDSM and the coalition, urged Hristijan Mickoski not to make decisions that could harm the country’s future, Telegrafi Macedonia reports.

His message came ahead of Von der Leyen’s visit, while Filipçe warned of the consequences that continuing the policy of isolation could bring.

“I urge Hristijan to reflect seriously. If necessary, let him spend another sleepless night. What will he tell Von der Leyen tomorrow? He should not gamble with the country’s future, because future generations may judge him for this,” Filipçe said.

The leader of the SDSM said that the country is blocked in the European integration process, while other states have a clear path toward membership.

“Until 2030, Europe’s door remains open. Albania, Montenegro, Ukraine and Moldova will become member states. We have lost this opportunity. Meanwhile, Hristijan Mickoski continues to present himself as a patriot, claiming that he would protect the name, language, culture and identity, even though all of these are safeguarded in the international agreement. They know this,” Filipçe said.

Filipçe warned that remaining in isolation would affect citizens’ well-being, emigration and the country’s prospects for a long time.

“I want citizens to be aware that, if this path continues, the country will face decades of poverty and isolation, spiritual poverty, the departure of children, dirty roads and polluted air everywhere, the sale of land for foreign interests and foreign mines, the sale of water to foreign data centers, as well as party tenders for this gang that is in power,” he warned.
