Fast road from Radovish to the Bulgarian border, Nikolovski expects work to begin in autumn

A fast road is planned to connect Radovish with the Bulgarian border, passing through Strumica and Novo Selo.

Transport Minister Aleksandar Nikolovski announced that the procedure has been opened to select a company that will prepare the project documentation and studies. The deadline for submitting bids is October 8. The aim is for the new infrastructure to serve as a road corridor between North Macedonia and Bulgaria.

“We aim to build a fast road from Radovish, through Strumica and all the way to Novo Selo, near the border with Bulgaria, creating another connection with the Republic of Bulgaria via a motorway or fast road,” Nikolovski said.

The preparation of the documentation and studies is expected to take six to nine months. Once they are completed, the company that will carry out the works will be selected. The project will be financed from the own funds of the Public Enterprise for State Roads, while the minister expects work on the ground to begin by autumn, if the procedures proceed according to plan.

“We will use the own funds of the Public Enterprise for State Roads. The enterprise is in a good financial position and has good revenues, so we will be able to implement the project. I do not want to present this as a promise, but if everything goes well and the selection is completed properly, first for the consulting company and then for the construction company, I expect work on the ground to begin by autumn,” Nikolovski said.

The minister explained that the planned road would continue beyond Strumica and reach the border with Bulgaria. /tv21
