Extreme heat at the height of summer, more than 25 million people in the US face scorching temperatures

As the United States approaches the Fourth of July holiday weekend, millions of residents on the East Coast are experiencing record temperatures and dangerous weather conditions.

According to authorities, this intense heat wave could affect public activities while also increasing health risks for residents.

Temperatures are expected to remain very high through Friday, making this the hottest period of the year so far. About 25 million residents in the central and eastern parts of the country are being affected by this phenomenon, accompanied by high humidity.

In New York, the temperature reached 38 degrees Celsius, the highest level recorded since 2012. Meanwhile, in Philadelphia, 39 degrees Celsius was recorded, the highest temperature since 2011. In Washington, a stretch of days with very high temperatures is forecast, an unusual development in the capital’s meteorological history.

New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani described these conditions as “extremely dangerous” and urged residents to be cautious by avoiding unnecessary exposure to the sun.

Despite the heat, President Donald Trump is expected to deliver an outdoor speech during Fourth of July events as part of celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of the United States. The high temperatures are also expected to affect several World Cup matches that will be played outdoors.

After this heat wave, the National Weather Service has warned that some areas of the Midwest and the Great Lakes region could face severe storms, with hail, strong winds, flash flooding, and tornadoes.

High temperatures are also being recorded in Canada. In the province of Quebec, extreme heat warnings have been issued, while recent storms left more than 137,000 customers without electricity. As of Friday morning, more than 51,000 subscribers were still without power.

Meteorologists and researchers emphasize that heat waves are appearing more often, becoming more intense, and lasting longer as a result of climate change caused by human activity.
