Explosion at Gas Facility in Qatar, 13 Dead and 66 Injured

An explosion at the Ras Laffan energy facility in Qatar has caused at least 13 deaths and left 66 people injured, the country’s Energy Minister said.

Preliminary data indicate that the incident is suspected to have resulted from an industrial accident, while any link to sabotage or a deliberate attack has so far been ruled out. The responsible authorities have launched an investigation to clarify the full causes of the incident, while emergency teams continue working at the scene.

Meanwhile, Qatar’s Energy Minister sought to reassure energy partners and international markets, stressing that the incident is not expected to affect energy exports or the country’s domestic supply.

“The incident will not affect exports or local demand in any way,” the minister said, underscoring that energy production and supply remain stable.

Ras Laffan is one of Qatar’s most important energy hubs and one of the key global centers for the production and export of liquefied natural gas (LNG). For this reason, any incident at this complex is followed with close attention by international energy markets.
