Employees came into contact with electricity while working; two Tropojë Municipality directors arrested

Police have detained two people in connection with the serious incident that occurred the previous day in Tropojë, where four municipal employees came into contact with electricity while working.

As a result, one of them lost his life, while the other three survived but were injured.

Police said that Ndriçim Gjocaj, 36, Director of the Directorate of Tourism, Public Services and Transport, and Gëzim Hasanpapaj, 60, the technical director of the works, both residents of Bajram Curri, were detained for violating workplace safety rules.

Based on the investigation so far, it is suspected that the four employees of the Municipality’s Services Sector were carrying a lighting pole to install it on its base when they lost their balance, causing the pole to touch the power lines.

Investigative actions are continuing to clarify the circumstances and responsibilities related to yesterday’s incident on Dobrava Road, where an employee of the Municipality’s Services Sector lost his life and three others were injured.

The Director of the Directorate of Tourism, Public Services and Transport and the technical director of the works were detained for violating workplace safety rules.

Following these actions, carried out under the direction of the Prosecution, the special investigative group established to clarify and document the circumstances and responsibilities related to the incident that occurred on 08.09.2026, around 10:00, near the village of Bujan, on Dobrava Road, where four employees of the Tropojë Municipality’s Services Sector came into contact with electricity, officers of the Tropojë Police Commissariat detained the following individuals for the criminal offense of “Violation of workplace safety rules”:

– N. Gj., 36, Director of the Directorate of Tourism, Public Services and Transport, and G. H., 60, the technical director of the works, both residents of Bajram Curri.

Based on the investigation so far, it is suspected that four employees of the Tropojë Municipality’s Services Sector, who were carrying a lighting pole to install it on its base, lost their balance, causing the pole to touch the wires and transmit electricity to the four individuals. As a result of the incident, M. S. lost his life, while A. D., I. D. and A. A. were injured and transported for medical assistance, outside danger for their lives.

The procedural materials were referred to the Prosecution for further action.
