According to the latest update from health authorities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the number of confirmed Ebola infections has surpassed 1,000, while 254 people have died.

The vast majority of infections have been recorded in Ituri province, in the northeast of the country, where more than 91% of cases and more than 80% of reported deaths are concentrated.
According to the authorities, the increase in cases is partly linked to improved testing and diagnostic capacity.
Meanwhile, the spread of the virus has also been detected in neighboring Uganda, where 19 cases and two deaths have been confirmed.
Experts believe the current outbreak has been caused by the Bundibugyo variant of the Ebola virus, for which there is currently neither a vaccine nor a specific treatment.
Ebola continues to be considered one of the deadliest infectious diseases in the world, as over the past 50 years it has caused more than 15,000 deaths in Africa.
