€5 Million Grant Boosts Electricity Grid Modernization

An agreement for additional financing worth €5 million has been finalized between the Ministry of Finance and the German Development Bank (KfW). These funds are intended for the project “Energy Sector Development Phase VII – Transmission Grid Improvement.”

The implementation of this initiative will be overseen by the Kosovo System, Transmission and Market Operator (KOSTT). The main goal remains the renovation of the transmission infrastructure, aiming for a more stable and secure energy supply, as well as deeper integration of the regional energy market.

According to the Ministry of Finance’s assessment, this investment marks a key moment for the consolidation of the energy system and the expansion of the national transmission network capacities.

Hekuran Murati, Minister of Finance, commended KOSTT’s work so far on the project. He stressed that “this additional fund from the German Government, channeled through KfW, will help carry out strategic investments and increase the resilience of the energy sector.”

Meanwhile, KfW’s head for Kosovo, Moritz Remé, reaffirmed his institution’s commitment to long-term cooperation with Kosovo authorities. “We are ready to continue our support for the further modernization of Kosovo’s energy field,” Remé said.

Likewise, Trim Tërnava, chief executive of KOSTT, confirmed that the works are advancing without delays. “These projects are progressing according to schedule. The new support from KfW will pave the way for a more complete transformation of the transmission network, equipping it to meet future challenges and further enhancing the reliability of Kosovo’s electricity system,” Tërnava stated.

The Ministry of Finance’s commitment to securing financial resources for projects of national importance remains unwavering. These investments are seen as essential for guaranteeing energy independence, modernizing vital infrastructure, and ensuring the sustainable development of the energy sector in the Republic of Kosovo.
