DUI reports that no government session has been chaired by the first Albanian deputy prime minister

Representatives of the Democratic Union for Integration claim that from June 2024 until now, none of the first deputy prime ministers of Albanian origin has ever chaired a session of the executive.

According to the political party, this fact best demonstrates the illusory nature of statements about the Albanian community’s real influence within the governing coalition. They stress that although the position is titled “first deputy prime minister” and includes an office, staff, a vehicle and official ceremonies, the reality is entirely different when, for more than two years, the chairing of not even a single government cabinet meeting has been entrusted to the officeholder. In this context, they ask what the epithet “first” in this position actually means.

DUI recalls that in previous terms, the role of deputy prime ministers represented a genuine political and institutional instrument of joint governance. Now, however, they say this role has been turned into an empty formality. The essence of the problem, they emphasize, lies not in the number of positions obtained, but in the real weight in the decision-making process. The statistics speak for themselves: zero sessions chaired and zero decisions made, they conclude.
