VLEN: DUI is punishing Albanians by obstructing the Law on Fair Representation

VLEN accused the Democratic Union for Integration (DUI) today of obstructing Albanians because of its own political and personal interests.

According to VLEN, DUI is not defending the Albanian cause but is using it as a hostage. “Their logic is clear: when they are in power, everything works, while when they are left out of power, they claim that everything is going wrong. But this way of operating can no longer continue,” the statement said.

VLEN stressed that Albanians do not owe permanent power to the “power-seekers of Little Reçica,” nor do they owe them ministerial posts, directorships or tenders. “Still less can they give them the right, simply because they lost their seats, to obstruct the Law on Fair Representation and damage the Ohrid Framework Agreement,” the party declared.

The statement also said that for a full 25 years, DUI had the opportunity and responsibility to guarantee this right through legislation, but failed to do so. According to VLEN, instead, tenders, personal enrichment and suspicious deals were given priority. Now, when the process is being undertaken by others, DUI is allegedly threatening to block the entire Assembly.

“DUI cannot accept the fact that Albanians sent it into opposition. For this reason, it is now taking revenge on them by obstructing the Law on Fair Representation,” VLEN said.

The party emphasized that Albanians are not the property of any political force and that their rights cannot serve as a tool for settling scores. “The Ohrid Agreement is not the property of Ali Ahmeti or his permanent power-seekers. It belongs to the citizens, and no one can hold it hostage because of an unlimited thirst for power,” VLEN said in conclusion.
