Domestic Energy Production Met 96.5% of Consumption Needs in May

According to the State Statistical Office report, in May 2026, domestic electricity sources almost fully covered internal demand, providing 96.5 percent of the amount consumed within Albanian territory.

Official data show that the gross amount of energy produced domestically reached 462,653 MWh, a figure that corresponds to 96.5 percent of the total gross consumption recorded for the same month.

The State Statistical Office also reports that nearly all coal consumption, specifically 99.9 percent, was channeled toward electricity generation, supporting this high level of coverage of needs by domestic production.

This positive balance meant that dependence on foreign electricity supplies for the May period was minimal, reflecting a strong performance by the local production sector.
