Dimal Basha imposes temporary restrictions on the movement of trucks over 20 tons on days of extreme heat

Acting Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Dimal Basha announced that he has made a decision to temporarily restrict the movement of freight transport vehicles with a total weight of more than 20 tons, with the aim of protecting road infrastructure and increasing traffic safety during days of high temperatures.

In a Facebook post, he said the decision clearly sets out the temperatures and time periods when these restrictions will take effect.

“Today I made a decision to impose temporary traffic restrictions for freight transport vehicles with a total weight of more than 20 tons, with the aim of protecting road infrastructure during high temperatures and increasing traffic safety,” Basha wrote.

According to him, on highways the measure will apply on days when the forecast maximum temperature reaches 32 degrees Celsius or higher, during the period from 11:00 to 17:30.

“On highways, the restriction will apply on days when a maximum temperature of 32°C or higher is forecast, in the 11:00–17:30 time slot,” he said.

Meanwhile, on national, regional and connecting roads, the restriction will apply on days when the forecast maximum temperature reaches 35 degrees Celsius or higher, also during the same hours, from 11:00 to 17:30.

“On national, regional and connecting roads, the restriction will apply on days when a maximum temperature of 35°C or higher is forecast, also in the 11:00–17:30 time slot,” Basha stressed.

He added that the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport will publish an official notice every day after 16:00 to announce whether the restrictions will be implemented for the following day, based on the latest forecasts from the Kosovo Hydrometeorological Institute.

“This decision aims to protect roads from damage caused by high temperatures and heavy loads, while at the same time ensuring greater safety for all traffic participants,” the acting minister said.
