Diddy receives 41 extra days in prison after privileged life behind bars

Sean “Diddy” Combs allegedly enjoyed unusual privileges during his time in prison: expensive drinks, massages, specially prepared meals, an illegal cellphone and the help of other inmates, who even took care of cleaning his toilet. These details were made public in an investigation by NBC News.

However, the unusual lifestyle inside prison appears to have come at a high cost for the 56-year-old music producer.

Officials at the federal prison in Fort Dix, New Jersey, took away 41 days of good-conduct credit. As a result, his projected release date of January 21, 2028, has been pushed back to March 2, 2028.

According to NBC News, the disciplinary action is related to conduct that compromises security or interferes with the orderly and quiet operation of the facility.

Jose Rojas, secretary of the AFGE Local 506 union and a person familiar with the case, said that losing 41 days of good-conduct credit is one of the harshest sanctions an inmate can receive.

He explained that such a punishment is often imposed when illegal cellphones are discovered in prisons.

The use of these devices is considered particularly serious because an inmate could use a phone to organize an attack on another person while inside the prison.

Reports about Diddy’s case said he had obtained a cellphone, which he allegedly also used to view nude photographs and sexually explicit material sent by his former partner.

However, authorities have not provided an official explanation confirming that this particular use of the phone was the reason for the disciplinary action.

The new release date is March 2, 2028, while it had previously been set for January 21, 2028.

NBC News’ report on the conditions of his imprisonment was published in late September and brought attention to a situation far removed from the ordinary reality of American prisons.

Four inmates who had been housed in the same unit as Combs said he had an unusual lifestyle and spent thousands of dollars each month on various services and conveniences.

According to their accounts, some inmates prepared special meals for him, including curry chicken, pizza and empanadas. Others made his bed, did his laundry and handled his mail.

Another inmate reportedly cleaned the toilet and shower area before those facilities were used by the music producer.

Combs also allegedly received Chinese-style massages and was able to consume alcoholic drinks, including Hennessy cognac, even though such items are restricted in prison.

“These are not normal things you see in prison. These are rich-person things,” one inmate told NBC.

“It sounds crazy, but then again, this is Diddy,” he added.

The claims about the 56-year-old’s cellphone prompted reactions because such devices are banned in federal prisons.

NBC News obtained photographs and videos recorded in the prison in which Combs appears to be using a device believed to be an illegal cellphone.

According to reports, the phone enabled him to communicate with the outside world and view material that is prohibited for inmates.

After the investigation was published, he was transferred, according to NBC and TMZ, to a special facility known as the Special Housing Unit, or SHU. This unit is also used to isolate inmates.

TMZ sources said that such a transfer is standard procedure when authorities investigate possible violations of prison rules.

The U.S. Federal Bureau of Prisons has not officially confirmed details about Combs’ detention conditions, citing reasons related to privacy, security and the protection of inmates.

Diddy’s side has also responded. A Combs spokesperson contacted by NBC News said he had not been informed of any specific disciplinary action.

He also questioned the media’s continued focus on his client.

“It is interesting that the focus continues to be on Sean, while the reporting itself raises broader questions about what happens inside federal prisons and how information gets out,” the spokesperson said.

He added that the defense had not received any findings or official explanation for the disciplinary action and, for that reason, did not want to speculate about its basis or consequences.

“Sean remains committed to serving his sentence and returning to his family,” he concluded.

Sean “Diddy” Combs, the founder of Bad Boy Records and one of hip-hop’s most influential figures for decades, is serving a 50-month prison sentence.

The sentence was handed down in 2025 after he was found guilty on two counts of transporting individuals for the purpose of engaging in prostitution.

The court, meanwhile, acquitted him of the more serious charges related to sex trafficking and participation in a criminal enterprise.

He is currently being held at the low-security federal prison in Fort Dix, New Jersey.

The case has renewed public attention in the United States to the detention conditions of the once-powerful music producer and to allegations of preferential treatment inside the prison.

For Diddy, these allegations have brought a concrete consequence: 41 additional days behind bars, unless there are further changes to the length of his sentence.
