Diaspora joins the protest in Brussels: Rama cannot deceive an entire people

Voices from the diaspora were also added today to the 37-day protest being held in front of the Prime Minister’s Office. An Albanian who lives and works in Brussels took to the podium set up on the boulevard, where he delivered a strongly critical message about the way Prime Minister Edi Rama presents Albania to European officials.

From the podium, he called on his fellow countrymen to remain steadfast and patient, stressing that the country lacks nothing compared to Europe except justice and the right leaders.

He also highlighted the gap between what, according to him, is sold in EU offices and the daily reality faced by Albanians in the country.

“I come from the diaspora, from Brussels. That is where the entire European state administration is. Uncle Edi Rama also goes there and speaks in the name of the people. Oh people, how many things are done in your name, even ‘His Highness’ speaks in your name! He may lie for a certain time, but he can never deceive an entire people all together! That is why unity and cooperation are salvation,” he said to the applause of the crowd.

Speaking also as someone who has lived in emigration, the protester urged citizens not to give up, underlining that European standards can also be built in Albania, without young people having to leave.

“If we are all together, if we have patience and perseverance… I have come because I love my country. I want to congratulate you and urge you to keep up this pace, to stand firm! What does Europe and the world have more than Albania? They have nothing more, only discipline and different standards. We have the opportunity to create them! Why should we not move forward in our own country? We lack only proper justice and the right people,” he said.
