Devastating Floods in Nepal: Death Toll Rises to 150

The death toll from the massive landslide in Gyirong County, near the city of Shigatse in Tibet, on the border between China and Nepal, has risen to 150. Hundreds of people remain missing, including 291 tourists.

The disaster is believed to have been caused by a combination of flash floods and landslides. The events caused extensive damage, striking buildings and residential areas.

Operations to locate and rescue the missing are continuing around the clock. According to figures published by the BBC, those still unaccounted for are believed to include 133 Indian nationals, at least 47 Americans and 33 British citizens.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for search and rescue efforts to be intensified and for all necessary measures to be taken to manage the situation. A spokesperson described the scale of the damage as “beyond imagination.”
