Destroyed roads, no power and food supplies running out after floods in Nepal

Many communities in Nepal’s Rasuwa district continue to lack access to basic services several days after the devastating floods. Residents say aid has still not reached many of the affected areas.

Located upstream, near the site where the landslide was recorded, Rasuwa was one of the areas to suffer the greatest damage. The destruction of roads has isolated several areas and, even though more than four days have passed since the disaster, residents say they are unable to travel to other places.

“We have no electricity, there are no roads to travel on, and no aid has arrived here so far,” one resident said.

The power outage has also created difficulties in communicating with family members. Many people are struggling to contact their relatives, while the solar panel installed at the municipal office has become one of the few options for charging phones. Residents often have to wait for hours to use it.

The situation in the healthcare sector is also alarming. Health workers warn that available supplies are rapidly running out. The remaining food, they say, may last only one or two days, while gas reserves have been completely exhausted.

Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority announced that aid is being sent to areas where the roads remain passable. At the same time, teams are working to reopen damaged routes and reach communities that remain isolated as a result of the floods.
